Why oh why is it that I cannot find Tomatos grown here in hothouses or from California or Florida??? They are all getting them from Mexico these days. I dont want my produce to come from Mexico. Even if they got a cheapo deal on it, surely there are those who would pay more for the Hothouse ones--yet they aren't available!!!

Unfortunately, they are nothing but "pink wax" this time of year--no taste at all!!!!

They make more money exporting local stuff. The chains buy the cheaper Mexican stuff. I don't get it....

Those tomatos must be awful cheap to make it worth their while to ship them up from Mexico! Also I dont think Mexico has the same standards when it comes to pesticides and herbacides--I could be wrong--they may have the same ones we do(such as they are).

70% of the Florida tomatoes were damaged by January's cold snap.

Florida is the only place where tomatoes are grown on a large scale in the U.S. during winter. California doesn't grow them until later in the year, and much of that state's crop is used for processed foods, such as ketchup, sauce and juice. Other states grow tomatoes in greenhouses year- round, but Florida's winter tomato crop is by far the largest. The States are now looking to Canada to fill the tomato void, so I'm not sure why you are having a hard time finding local tomatoes? I picked up local tomatoes just last night

Even last winter I had a hard time finding local hothouse tomatoes and Florida ones! The stores were stocking Mexican ones all the way! It makes me wonder why. You say you found some local Hh to,matoes? Please tell me what store carries them.
